1400’s-1600’s Colonial America
Star #1: 1492 Pinta – discovered America as part of Christopher Columbus’ fleet.
Star #1: 1622 Spanish Galleon shipwreck 8 Reale from the Nuestra Señora de Atocha. The entire fleet of 24 ships never reached Spain, causing a tremendous financial shock to Spain limiting the ability to fund wars and construction of South, Central, and North America.
Star #1: 1641 Spanish Galleon shipwreck 8 Reale from the Nuestra Señora de la Pura y Limpia Concepción (“Our Lady of the Pure and Immaculate Conception”). This was another of Spain’s most valuable losses in the 17th century, increasing Spain’s financial stress required to fund wars and construction of the America’s.

Star #2: In 1783, Spain again took control of Florida and restored the name Castillo de San Marcus until ceding Florida to the United States in 1819. The fort was renamed in 1821 to Fort Marion becoming an active Army base until 1933.
